Inspired by a photo taken circa 1927 of my aunt Martha. She was probably around 10 years old. I was intent upon capturing the interesting lighting in the photograph. I did a painting of my mother from a photo taken on the same day that had dramatic dark lighting. Perhaps the photos were taken at different times of day, but the lighting was softer in my Aunt's photograph. The atmosphere, even though softer, was still slightly eerie. I worked to preserve that effect, especially keeping the light on her eyes. Framed.
